What is Type 1 Diabetes & Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes is a group of metabolic disorders associated with abnormally high levels of glucose in the blood. Symptoms include frequent urination (polyuria), increased thirst (polydipsia) and increased appetite (polyphagia). If left untreated, diabetes can lead to many problems. Severe complications of the disease include diabetic ketoacidosis, noncorticotic hyperosmolar coma or death. Acute chronic complications include heart disease, stroke, chronic kidney failure, leg ulcers and damage to the eyes, nerves and blood vessels.

Types of Diabetes

  1. Diabetes type 1
  2. Diabetes type 2

Type 1 or insulin-dependent diabetes

diabetes type 1 Diabetes Type 1

This type of diabetes is also known as pediatric diabetes. This is due to insufficient production of insulin and is characterized by the loss of insulin-producing beta cells of the Langerhans Islands in the pancreas, leading to insulin deficiency. This type can be further classified as immune-mediated or idiopathic. This is relatively rare.

Signs and Symptoms

The main symptoms are diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, blurred vision, and weight loss. Over time, this can lead to nerve damage in the kidneys, heart and eyes. Symptoms of type 1 diabetes are very important.

Reason

Type 1 diabetes is somewhat hereditary, with multiple genes; This includes some types of HLA genes.

Some risk factors for type 1 diabetes include

  1. Family History – A person with parents or a sibling with type 1 diabetes has a slightly higher risk of developing the disease.
  2. Genetics – The presence of certain genes increases the risk of developing type 1 diabetes.
  3. Geography – Type 1 diabetes increases when you move away from the equator. The incidence of this disease is high in the United States.
  4. Age – Although type 1 diabetes can be diagnosed at any age, it can appear in two significant peaks. The first peak occurs in children aged 4 to 7 years and the second in children aged 10 to 14 years.

Some other risk factors include

  1. Exposure to certain viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus, Coxsackie virus, Mumps virus and cytomegalovirus
  2. Vitamin D levels are low
  3. Drinking water containing nitrates
  4. Having a mother who had preeclampsia (high blood pressure) during pregnancy
  5. Born with jaundice

Prevention

There are no preventative measures for this type of diabetes, but they can be well controlled by taking insulin.

Management

Type 1 diabetes is treated by injecting insulin several times a day or using an insulin pump. There are four types of insulin: fast-acting insulin, short-acting insulin, intermediate-acting insulin, and long-acting insulin.

Insulin injection is administered via subcutaneous injection or insulin pump.

Insulin administration is effective not only in preventing hyperglycemic emergencies, but also in preventing chronic complications of fasting type 2.

By correcting fasting hyperglycemia and posttraumatic (after meals) hyperglycemia. Insulin injections are mandatory for people with type 1 diabetes because it cannot be treated with diet and exercise alone. But diet management with insulin therapy is very important. This includes checking the carbohydrate content of the food and carefully monitoring the blood glucose level. If you are overweight (body mass index is more than 30) it is essential to maintain a healthy weight. Patients should quit smoking and drink in moderation.

Issues

  1. Diabetic retinopathy — vision loss and blindness
  2. Diabetic neuro-renal failure
  3. Heart disease such as stroke

Type 2 or non-insulin dependent diabetes

diabetes type 2
Type 2 diabetes is caused by insulin resistance, which reduces insulin secretion. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes.

Signs and Symptoms

Significant symptoms of type 2 diabetes are polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst), polyphagia (increased appetite) and weight loss. A history of blurred vision, itching, peripheral neuropathy, persistent infections, and fatigue are commonly found in the diagnosis.

Reason

This type of diabetes is primarily contributed by lifestyle factors and genetics. The major lifestyle factors that cause type 2 diabetes include obesity (defined by a body mass index of over 30), sedentary lifestyle or lack of physical activity, poor diet and stress.

The main risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes are three

  1. Age – Over 40 years
Genetics – The presence of a close relative with a condition such as parent, brother or sister
  2. Weight – Being overweight or obese

Prevention

The progression of type 2 diabetes can be delayed or prevented by proper diet and regular exercise. It is very important to monitor blood glucose levels.

Management

Management of type 2 diabetes involves lifestyle changes such as exercise and diet. Some patients may need to take oral anti-diabetic drugs and insulin depending on their sugar level. Anti-diabetic medications include metformin, climipiride, and acarbose. Dietary factors play an important role in the development of type 2 diabetes. Excessive intake of sugary foods is associated with increased risk. Certain medical conditions and medications can lead to diabetes. People with diabetes are more likely than non-diabetics to have foot problems. Diabetes can cause damage to blood vessels and nerves. This will reduce the feeling of pressure, pain, heat or cold on the feet. The patient should not notice a foot injury or ulcer until the person below has severe damage to the skin and tissues or the patient has a severe infection. Diabetes can also injure blood vessels. Small sores or fractures on the skin can turn into deep skin lesions or ulcers. If these skin lesions do not heal or become large, deep, or contagious, the affected limb may need to be amputated.

Issues

  1. Heart disorders
  2. Kidney failure
  3. Cognitive impairment

Diabetes Type 2 – Beware Of Day To day Choices!

While there may be many reasons for developing type II diabetes, in many cases, what causes type 2 diabetes is the wrong lifestyle choices. Of course, genetic predisposition plays a role, but the foods we choose to eat and the level of activity we carry out are the most important factors in determining the onset of the disease. Not to be confused with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes usually develops later in life, rather than being born with the condition. It is clear that the way we choose to live our lives plays an important role in making and, thus, preventing the disease.

Type 2 diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance. This means that the body can no longer detect the insulin produced by the body and therefore, cannot respond properly by bringing glucose to the body’s cells for proper functioning.

On the other hand, those with type 1 diabetes are more likely to be born with insulin deficiency or to develop it early in life due to problems with their immune system. Both of these conditions have the same name, but this difference shows what causes diabetes is very different depending on the type you are dealing with. As a result, treatment and management are very different.

Strong genetic interactions have been found in those with type II diabetes. However, many people are skeptical about whether this link is more closely related to nature than genetic disease. Instead, many choose to focus on other risk factors, such as diabetes. Some of these factors are factors such as high blood pressure and high levels of fat in the blood.

Interestingly, these 2 conditions are more common in those with other risk factors as well. These include high-fat diets, heavy drinking, and sedentary lifestyle. These combined factors play a very important role in a person’s bodyweight. Therefore, obesity is also a contributing factor in this condition.

However, the good news about many of the causes of this condition is that, even if you have a history of diabetes in your family, you can do everything you can to prevent it. Once diagnosed, you can avoid it and, according to some, you can cure it if you make some changes in your lifestyle. No matter what the cause of diabetes, you can help manage the disease and make an effort to live a healthier life.

Homecare Agency Serves Seniors With Diabetes Type 2 Diagnosis

Diabetes is a disorder that is affecting more and more people every day, and it affects young and old alike. Type 1 diabetes begins early in life, while type 2 diabetes is associated with adults. Fortunately, seniors and their caregivers caregivers reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by primarily improving diet and exercise.

Recent research has shown that adults with type 2 diabetes can delay or prevent the disease by getting 30 minutes of exercise five times a week combined with a low-calorie, low-fat diet to manage weight. Studies have shown that people aged 60 and over reduce type 2 diabetes by 71 percent.
Home-care companies are increasingly aware of the problem of diabetes in older adults, and are taking the necessary steps to prevent the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes in their elderly clients. With more than eight million Americans living with diabetes over the age of 60, including 20 percent of those over the age of 65 with diabetes, professional home care agencies know how the disease can be harmed and how it is linked to unemployment, eating habits , and family history.

Professional caregivers help older people manage their diabetes diagnosis by naming but by dramatically changing their lifestyle.

Includes

  • Regularly monitor your blood sugar levels so that seniors know how much to eat, what to eat, how much exercise they need to exercise each day, and how much insulin they need.
  • A balanced diet for an adult with type 2 diabetes, which includes knowing which foods have a negative effect on blood glucose levels.
  • Adherence to medication, because medications are important in controlling diabetes. The home caregiver will make sure that the medicine is taken in the prescribed way by the chief physician.

Regular exercise is important to reduce or prevent the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes in adults. This usually includes at least 30 minutes of exercise for at least five days a week. It raises blood sugar levels and improves health and energy.

Weight loss, which can be especially difficult for adults who have difficulty walking. Weight loss is important for the management of diabetes because studies show that about 90 percent of people with diabetes are overweight and that maintaining a healthy weight is important for maintaining a healthy blood sugar level.

While diabetes can be fatal if not treated properly, adults with type 2 diabetes can lead happier lives, especially if they are tested by a knowledgeable home care service agency. As long as the caregiver monitors and carefully controls his blood sugar level, he can live a long and happy life.
